Who plays at Madfutsal

78 players are registered across the eight clubs of the Emagumeni Futsal League. They are not professionals. They are people who finish work, drive to Madokero Mall and play a competitive fixture under floodlights on a caged artificial pitch — then do it again the following week.

Squad sizes vary more than you might expect. Chiback and Reds field seven names each; Maniacs carry fifteen. That range changes how a season feels from the inside. In a seven-man squad almost everyone plays almost every minute of every game, and a single unavailable player is a genuine problem. In a fifteen-man squad there is competition for a starting place and enough cover to press hard for the full match.

Futsal at five-a-side asks different things of a player than eleven-a-side football. The pitch is short, the cage keeps the ball in play, and there is nowhere to hide when possession turns over. First touch, close control and the willingness to track back matter far more than pace over distance.

Names on this page are transcribed from the official matchday score sheets, which is also how the standings are compiled. Players are listed by club in the order they appear on the sheet.

Getting your name on one of these lists is straightforward. There is no trial and no qualifying standard — you either join an existing side that is short of numbers, or you bring a group of five and enter as a new club for the next Winter or Summer campaign. Plenty of players here started by turning up with four friends and no expectations.

Players wanting to develop their game rather than just compete can ask about the training academy, and any group can hire a pitch for $20 an hour to train on their own terms. To see how the sides these players represent are getting on, the current league standings have every result.
