Eight clubs make up the Emagumeni Futsal League, and no two are built the same way. Chiback carry seven players and have won every game they have played. Maniacs rotate a fifteen-man roster. Between those two extremes sit sides built on a settled core of nine or ten. In 5-a-side futsal, squad size is a genuine tactical choice rather than an administrative detail.
A small squad means continuity — the same five know each other's movement without needing to talk — but it leaves nothing in reserve if someone picks up a knock or cannot make a Thursday. A large squad can press harder for longer because there are fresh legs to bring on, at the cost of the understanding that comes from playing the same people every week.
The current campaign has rewarded continuity. Chiback's seven have taken thirty-six points from thirty-six, and Benchwarmers have lost once in eleven with a settled ten. But Tech 5 have played more football than anyone — thirteen games — and that kind of mileage tends to pay off over a longer season.
Every club here started the same way: a group of friends, workmates or neighbours who wanted a proper fixture list instead of a kickabout. There is no trial and no qualifying standard. If you can field five players and commit to turning up, there is a place for your side in the next campaign.
Teams enter for either the Winter League or the Summer League, so there are two starting points each year. Most new sides use the gap between seasons to hire a pitch and get their five playing together before the results start counting — an hour under the floodlights costs $20, and it is the cheapest pre-season any team will ever run.
To see how the clubs currently compare, the full league standings carry every result so far, and the squad lists for all eight sides show exactly who lines up for who.
